Guidelines for surveying the distribution and reproduction areas of the commercially unexploited fish in the coastal area

The existing information concerning commercially unexploited fish species off the Finnish coast is insufficient. To increase the amount of readily available information, the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute has published its first guidelines for surveying the distribution and reproduction areas of commercially unexploited fish species in Finnish coastal waters.

This publication is one of the end products of the EU’s INTERREG NANNUT (Nature and Nurture of the Northern Baltic Sea) project. The guidelines collect and present information on the fishing methods used up to the present day. The functionality and suitability of the methods for different species and habitats is evaluated based on the reviewed literature and the experience gained in the field studies of the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute.

The guidelines are aimed at agencies that carry out research concerning fish stocks, such as consultancies, ELY-Centres, municipalities and harbours.
