Natural resources and society

Natural resources and society – questions concerning management and use of fish, game and reindeer resources

The fish, game and reindeer resources are exploited in the primary production as well as a component of recreational activities or leisure services. The research is focused on the economic, social and community dimensions of sustainability. The goal of the programme is to produce knowledge which helps to recognise, define and solve governance problems connected with fish, game and reindeer resources. Moreover, this knowledge promotes developing new natural resource based livelihoods and predicting changes and contradictions in the use and governance of natural resources.

The central themes of the programme are:

  • Challenges of societal transitions to the natural resource politics
  • Livelihoods, entrepreneurship and the economy of natural resources
  • Practices and institutions in the governance of the natural resources
  • Assessment of natural resource policies and the support of decision making
