Food composition of Cormorants

The rapid increase of the number of cormorants on the Finnish coast has created a conflict between fisheries and nature conservation. The responsible authorities need scientific advice for decisions on cormorant management.

Goals

The goal is to estimate the effect of cormorant predation on the future catches of valuable fishes, mainly perch, pike-perch and whitefish, on separate areas on the coast.

Benefits

Reliable information is the basis for management actions.
