Baltic salmon and brown trout

Information about the status of salmon (Salmo salar) and sea trout (Salmo trutta) stocks is being collected to enable their sustainable use and conservation.

Salmon and sea trout stocks are being monitored and assessed using catch statistics, catch samples, fish tagging, juvenile surveys and environmental research. The project is producing

1. information on the condition of salmon and sea trout stocks in order to promote the rational and sustainable use of natural resources;

2. scientific data for the Working Group of Baltic Salmon and Sea Trout of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES);

3. information for salmon and sea trout stock rebuilding programmes;

4. information for the management of salmon and sea trout stocks (e.g. stocking, habitat restoration).
