This unit is in charge of communications and publishing for the Institute as well as data administration

   
 

Fisheries Research

studies fish and crayfish stocks, the impact of fishing and environmental changes on them, and management methods. 

Fishery resources assessment produces population estimates and catch predictions. Fisheries management studies help to find out to fishing and stocking practices that maintain productive and diverse fish populations. Studies of fish habitat explore how eutrophication, pollutants, and other factors affect fisheries, and how these impacts could be mitigated

Socioeconomic and Aquaculture Research

studies aquaculture and carries out socioeconomic research on fisheries, hunting, and reindeer husbandry. It also produces the official fisheries and hunting statistics.

Socioeconomic research involves topics such as the salmon price chain in Europe and the development of economic indicators tor fisheries. This unit investigates the economic and social significance of professional and recreational fishing. Through research, aquaculture production is diversified and its environmental impacts are reduced.

Game and Reindeer Research

studies game and reindeer populations and their habitats, and reindeer husbandry.

This unit carries out monitoring to estimate abundance and population growth of game. Its studies include identifying habitat requirements of game and effects of agriculture and forestry on game populations. The reindeer research consists of herd monitoring, studies of reindeer biologi, and examination of management practices.

Aquaculture

uses fish rearing and scientific expertise to maintain native fish stocks and their diversity, improves fishing opportunities, and promotes fish farming as a profession. 

This unit maintains Finland's indigenous, threatened fish populations and their genetic diversity through fish farming, stocking, and milt banks. It produces high-quality fish eggs and juveniles as starting material for fish rearing. In addition, aquacultural methods, products, and technology are developed to improve conditions tor fishing as an occupation

This unit prepares and publishes official documents relating to organizational management, planning, and reporting. These include the Institute's overall operational and financial plans, annual reports, goal statements,and budget proposals.
